The IWATE SNOW FESTIVAL is one of the most famous snow festivals in TOHOKU. The others are the HIROSAKIJO-YUKIDORO FESTIVAL, HACHINOHE ENBURI FESTIVAL, NAMAHAGE-SEDO FESTIVAL, and YOKOTE KAMAKURA FESTIVAL. Every year, about 4,000 people take part in creating snow sculptures with different themes. Stage shows and a fireworks display are held during the festival, and about 300,000 tourists visit the festival. After dark, a fantastic world composed of snow and ice figures are created when they are lit up.
