The parade proceeds through the center of the city and each
NEBUTA float waits at different spots along the course, and at the starting signal,
they all begin to move as one. Therefore, no matter where spectators may be along
the parade route, they can enjoy the floats without having to wait.
Although the NEBUTA FESTIVAL is an event full of passion, energy and excitement,
the floats displayed on ships out at sea are a fantastic vision to behold and
very impressive.
Those who jump and dance and shout "RASSERA" along the NEBUTA floats
are called HANETO, and are dressed in YUKATA (summer KIMONOS) and paper hats decorated
with artificial flowers. They tuck up their sleeves with a cord and attach bells
to their clothing that jingle merrily as they dance.
HANETO dancers must be dressed in the full official outfit to participate in the
procession. Also, dancers are not allowed to join in partway through the parade
but must take part from the beginning.
