Exquisite contrast of the dark blue surface of the lake
and autumn leaves
There is a legend about LAKE TAZAWA that describes a beautiful girl named TATSUKO
who drinks divine water to remain beautiful and young, but instead turns into
a dragon and becomes mistress of the lake. At a depth of 423.4m, it is the deepest
lake in JAPAN. A fabulous view of MT. KOMAGATAKE, the highest peak in AKITA PREF.,
can be seen from KATAJIRI STATION where the TATSUKOHIME figure made from gold
is located. Although visitors can travel around the lake in 40 minutes by car,
because circumference of the lake is about 20km, it is recommended that the autumn
leaves should be viewed from a sightseeing boat.
